My Favorite Hors d’Oeuvre
Yes, this recipe calls for cream cheese. Yes, cream cheese is a dairy product. And yes, I know that dairy isn’t strictly Paleo; but guess what? Neither am I! I’ve adapted a lifestyle that is live-able for ME, provides results for ME, and most importantly–is something that MY body responds positively to. No two people are alike, and therefore, there is no cookie-cutter diet. You must listen to your OWN body; do your OWN research, and develop your OWN lifestyle accordingly! All I can tell you is that from the research I’ve done, the jury on dairy is still out. Here’s what two of my favorite bloggers, Dr. Kurt Harris and Mark Sisson have to say on the matter. For now, the only thing I know for certain is how my body handles dairy–limited quantities, from raw sources, and fermented is best.
Without further adieu, below you’ll find a recipe for my most favoritest (yes, I know that’s a double superlative and ‘favoritest’ isn’t a real word) hors d’oevure/snack/small meal:
Smoked Salmon Tartines
- 1 recipe All-Purpose Primal Crackers
- Smoked Salmon/Lox (Costco carries an excellent-tasting, wild option)
- Cream Cheese
- Red Onion, sliced thinly
- Fresh Dill
- Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper
Take a cracker, layer with cream cheese (you can simply skip this step if you’re avoiding dairy), salmon, red onions, capers, fresh dill, and sprinkle with salt/pepper. Enjoy!
