Carla’s Bites of Bacon Wrapped Heaven
A couple of weekends back I had the privelege of attending a dinner party with a group of people so phenomenal that I actually get a little nervous everytime I get around them. They all have such remarkable life stories and endless spunk! I left that evening inspired for action/direction for my own life PLUS a delicious recipe!
I’ve always been a bit of a cheater when it comes to potluck style dinner parties. The “family secret” was stopping at the grocery store to pick something up, swapping containers, and calling it homemade. This tactic was a direct result of two things: fear of bringing over a flop and lack of time (i.e. procrastination). Enter Carla to the rescue. Her Bacon Wrapped, Almond Stuffed Prunes are TO DIE FOR!!! To. Die. For.
- Heat the oven to 450°F.
- Stuff the prunes with the almonds.
- Cut the bacon in half and wrap a piece around each date.
- Set on a baking sheet and broil* about 10 minutes, turning once, until the bacon is crisp.
- Serve…or risk eating them all yourself (and then being very regular…you’ve been warned)
This is so easy I can preheat while prepping. Throw into the broiler while showering. Turn over with hair in towel, drying. Get dressed, do make-up. Take out of oven. Dry hair. Put in container. Step into shoes, throw the dog a biscuit and head to the party.
Guess what Team TLSP is getting as an appetizer at our dinner this Friday…
*Hint: A broiler is a grill turned upside down. So, feel free to grill these if you either A) don’t have a working broiler, or B) simply prefer the grill. Thanks to Melicious for that tip!

That sounds delicious Georgia. I’m a fan of anything ‘bacon wrapped’. This recipe reminds me of a slightly different, yet equally delicious hor d’oeuvre: Dates stuffed with blue cheese and a marcona almond, and then wrapped in bacon.
Only an option, however, if you’re including raw dairy in your diet.
I’ve had the date/blue cheese version too. Either one sounds awesome, sweet and savory all in one bite!
Where fo you find raw cheese? Would farmers market stuff be considered raw?
Alexis,
Check out the post on the trip some of the girls took to Moo Jesus. Raw milk and cheese explained. http://thelabelsayspaleo.com/2009/12/28/team-tlsp-road-trip-to-moojesus/
Oh, and the short answer to your questions is no, they cannot legally sell raw cheese at the farmers market (from what I understand).
Farmers can sell raw cheese at the farmers market. It is raw milk that is more strictly regulated.
Whole Foods also sells some raw cheeses.
Thanks for the correction, Lisa! I’m so far out of the dairy loop at this point
I’m so glad you liked them!! I think I’m actually going to make them for my coworkers Monday. Yes, beware of eating too much of them! They’re best when they’re still warm from the oven!
