I've been confused about bananas too. I think they are on the "ok in limited quantities" list on the paleo diet list. But they are pretty high in sugar. In this case, Lyssa is using them as a dessert...so I think as long as you keep in mind that this is a dessert, not exactly a "healthy snack" you're ok... I would think it is better than sugar or artificially sweetened ice cream because it is real food?

But I'd love to hear other people's input on this. Forum issue for sure

I always crack up when I hear you two have a conversation

Now here's a question that probably needs to be in the forum What's the consensus on bananas being on the list of approved items. When I first started zoning, JDP would give me a long talk if he saw banana or 1/2 banana anywhere on my food logs - too starchy, sweet and bad bad bad.

Are bananas okay now that we've gone off Zone to unweighed/unmeasured zone.
Is it an acceptable post WOD meal like Sweet Potato or should it be an occasional indulgence.
Coming from an endurance background, bananas used to be my best friend - pre-race, post-race, recovery, mid morning, late afternoon snack - it has been almost a year since I last bought bananas at the grocery store :(

(thanks lyssa...)

Always be prepared!

Paleo-er substitution: I now keep an extra coconut water in the fridge for hangover situations. More potassium and way less sugar.

What Lisa isn't telling you is that my mom's email said bananas cure hangovers when eaten both the night of and the next morning, so Lisa slept with a banana by her bed for the next few months...

This reminds me of a certain email forward from a certain mom (ahem, Lyssa's) extolling the benefits of bananas. It was signed by Dole...the banana company.
